Grace That Never Runs Out

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.  — Psalm 103:8 I had a remarkable opportunity to meet a store owner on the Island of Crete in Greece while searching for and collecting biblical antique items, including a framed image of Titus, who is well-known on the island. While he was occupied with his business, I shared with him the story of the Apostle Paul’s missionary journey in their city, as well as the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.

The saddest part of our conversation was realizing that they did not truly know Jesus, even though they were selling replicas of Him. To them, the stories of Jesus and Paul were merely myths.

When I heard his response, I was shocked to realize that the stories of Jesus and Paul were being used merely for business and profit. There seemed to be no concern for the truth behind what they were selling. At that moment, it was difficult not to feel upset. I struggled to hold back my emotions and even considered not buying the items because of their denial of the truth of the gospel.

Yet, patience and compassion guided me not to act on my initial feelings. I decided to purchase the items anyway and prayed for the man and his business. Before leaving, I told him, “I will keep praying for you, sir, and for your business.” He responded, “Thank you, my friend, and I hope you will come back to the Island.”

Truly, the Lord is kind and merciful, He is patient and full of love (Psalm 103:8). Even when we are in denial time and again, nothing can stop His compassion and grace from continually overflowing. God uses people, circumstances, and the Word of God to remind us that we have many chances to understand His ultimate purpose (Genesis 50:20; Romans 8:28; Isaiah 55:11).

In our workplaces, or wherever God calls us to be, we will encounter a diverse array of individuals. It is our duty to consistently demonstrate love, compassion, and respect, even when others have differing beliefs or opinions. Let us strive to work together in peace and understanding, trusting in God’s grace. He desires for no one to perish but for everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). When someone remains in darkness, do not lose hope—continue to pray. Prayer is our responsibility; the rest is in God’s hands (I Corinthians 3:6).

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your guidance and wisdom as we navigate the diverse paths of life. Grant us the strength to show compassion and love to those around us, regardless of their beliefs. Help us to be steadfast in our faith and patient in our interactions, trusting that Your grace will illuminate even the darkest corners. Lord, fill our hearts with Your peace, and teach us to rely on prayer as our source of strength. May our actions reflect Your love and bring glory to Your name. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.
